ABOUT US

The idea for Revolutionized Brands® stemmed from the challenge of reimagining previously purchased items. We embrace the concept of Kintsugi—the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by accentuating the fractures with gold. In a similar spirit, we use strips of symbolic fabric from Keffiyehs* and Tatreez*—traditional embroidered garments, each hand-sewn in a distressed, imperfect cross-stitch.

Bearing witness to systemic injustice and intolerable cruelty are Shattering Events**. Unlike typical disillusionment, this type of shattering is so complete that it can induce an expansion of consciousness. Much like the metaphorical concrete that overlays gold, as versions of our system worlds crumble, we begin to glimpse truth through the cracks. Comprehending the crude machine that controls our lives becomes possible. Artificial labels fall away and we get what we have now—a widespread awakening.

The millions of people who are taking to the streets in protest, are raising the voice of humanity multitudes higher than the din of supremacy. Hope for real change—for something better—is blooming everywhere. From the college encampments around the globe calling for divestment from war manufacturers, to the creative disruptions of everything from traffic, to board meetings to political fundraisers by those who refuse to sit back and allow “business as usual” to continue while unprecedented destruction of human life is being normalized—hope is everywhere.

“‘What can I do? I’m just one person,’ said seven billion people”.

The Calls to Action** are also everywhere. We have the power to alter algorithms so that we support what we stand for. Away from the discarded heaps of fast fashion and the racist origins of high fashion, what we buy now and who we buy it from is power.

Tatreez* & Keffiyeh*

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”

Dr Martin Luther King, Jr, Letter from Birmingham Alabama jail, 1963
